Monday - Last day of tournament, and I mixed things up a bit.
This is the final day of the tournament and I was getting a little tired of salami wraps. So I packed some butter lettuce leaves, bought pulled pork from the BBQ vendor (no sauce). And made lettuce wraps topped with guacamole.
I will say that I'm starting to really enjoy how I feel. I'm going to be a little hesitant to add certain things back, unless I just really, really want them. I definitely know I'm going to be adding back wine, but I'm glad to know that it can become more of a weekend or once in a while thing instead of an every night thing as it was.
But I really don't miss fast food, and I'm enjoying making healthier choices.
The funny thing is I really used to believe that I was eating healthy before. I was proud that I was eating a granola bar instead of a candy bar. Now I realize that they probably have an equal amount of sugar. One just isn't coated in chocolate.
Same with my diet drinks. I used to down tons of Diet Coke, diet juice drinks, especially Krystal Lite. And Splenda every morning in my coffee. I had no idea that my body didn't understand how to process that. And that even though those drinks didn't have many calories, my brain was still fooled into thinking it was getting the sugar it "needed."
I've now become one of "those people" who read labels and turn away excess sugar. Because I can honestly say, I do not get hungry between meals anymore. I can tell if I haven't eaten within the last four hours, but if I made good healthy choices for a meal, I'm generally not hungry right away. Which I suspect means that my body is now burning fat for fuel instead of sugar for fuel, and is EXACTLY what I want.

Whole 30 Daily - Day 16

I totally hear ya on the granola bars. Until starting the Whole 30, I ate "protein" bars that often had chocolate and nuts almost daily. I also had shifted a few years ago from using white pasta and rice to brown, but then if you are always eating that in place of veggies, I guess it isn't healthy. And now I have to wonder if I should be eating pasta or rice at all. They will definitely become less frequent.
ReplyDeleteI'm grateful that I gave up soda for good a few years ago. I can't imagine how tough last week would have been if I had still been hooked on it. I am a consistent water drinker now. :)
