Whole 30 - Day 6

Saturday - Snow day!

We almost never get snow here, so this was a big deal for Georgia. And my family and I made the best of it. The biggest challenge for me was finding things to snack on while we lounged and piddled around.

And I hate to say it, but despite my best efforts, I ate some stuff that probably wouldn't make the Whole 30 police happy. I put an asterisk by those foods below . . . but the Whole 30 police can put it in the Suck It Bucket because I AM NOT starting over. And all things considered, the choices I made weren't that damn bad.

I will say I intentionally avoided a neighborhood get-together because I wasn't feeling quite strong enough to be around all the cheesy, fried and gluten-filled goodies I knew would be there. Not to mention the wine and beer. So I told myself that I was happy in my pajamas (which I was), and stuck to that excuse.

I ended up making a new video intro for Dani's YouTube channel, which took my mind off food until it was time to go to bed. I sipped on my fake wine (Kombucha mixed with La Croix) and was perfectly content.

Body and mood observations: I spent most of the day trying to fill the empty feeling I had (where you're not hungry, but you just feel like snacking on something). I didn't actually experience hunger pangs, but I clearly had a taste for something. I satisfied it with eating way too many store-bought banana chips, which I later discovered had added sugar.

Of course they did! They're crunchy, sweet and delicious.

I need to learn to embrace that hunger feeling, especially when I know I'm not really hungry. From what they said in my meeting, that's when your body is trying to find something to feed on. And if you give it what it's looking for in the form of food (in my case, glucose), then you will feel relief, but you set yourself back from your ultimate goal. So next time, I'm going to try to ignore (or embrace) that hunger feeling ... especially if it's theoretically too soon to eat again ... and let my body find some good old fat to use for energy. Hopefully hot tea and a distraction will help.

Also, I got in the hot tub today, and I initially put on a bikini just to see if I could pull it off. I didn't look as terrible as I have in past years, but I still didn't feel "bikini worthy." Although I do think my stomach is a little flatter. Just a little. I'll take it.

All in all, my energy level was better today than it's been in a while. So I'll take that, too.
  • Breakfast: Breakfast tacos (chicken sausage link, scrambled eggs, avocado wrapped in butter lettuce leaves)  - 5 stars!
  • Lunch/snacks: I didn't really eat lunch since I had breakfast at like 10:30. But I did snack on banana chips*, an apple and prosciutto wrapped around mango slices.
  •  Dinner: Oxtail stew* (with leeks, carrots, celery) with hashed brown pancakes (shredded potatoes in waffle maker). This wasn't entirely Whole 30 compliant because I browned my meat in flour and added a bit of red wine -- but it all cooked out in the slow cooker.
  • Dessert: Kombucha tea mixed with watermelon flavored sparkling water

  1. Kudos to you for putting on a bikini (although I'm sure you look pretty great in it)! Right now, I don't think I could do that ever again. Hope I'll feel that it's within the realm of possibility by this summer. :)
